Happy Endings 2025
We love hearing how shelter cats and dogs do in their new homes. If you have a happy ending story you'd like to share about an animal that came from the Mansfield Shelter, please email the story to us at volunteers@mansfieldshelter.org and attach a digital photo if possible.
Lilly
Lilly is settling in beautifully. She is a delightful girl who isn't shy about setting her boundaries. She doesn't like you cleaning her litterbox and she hisses if she thinks you are trying to sneak up behind her which makes me wonder what her previous life was like, poor thing.
We just love her. She does lots of purring and head butting and snuggling. Thank you for letting us adopt her.

Parfait
Hello!
It’s been a couple days so I wanted to give you a little update on Parfait, who we’ve renamed Merlin.
He was a bit skittish at first, but by the third day he had really warmed up to me and my family. He still scares off easily, but he’s doing way better with handling noise than before. I kept him in my room those first few days, and then let him explore the house and meet our other cat, Flash. Flash did plenty of hissing and growling (as expected!), but he’s slowly adjusting to having Merlin around.
He’s full of energy and loves playing, but he’s also a huge cuddle bug and absolutely loves pets and attention. He’s already showing off his sweet and silly personality, and it feels like he was meant to be here with us. He even slept next to me on the bed the whole night last night.
I honestly feel so lucky that I get to be the one to give him his forever home. He’s brought so much joy to our family already, and we can’t wait to see him grow.
Thanks again for everything you do, and for giving us the chance to love this little guy!
Best,
Fernanda
Bell
Hello.
My Mom (Gail Goebel) asked that I pass this along so you could see how Bell is loving her new home. She has settled in nicely and seems very happy. She is so full of spunk and energy it’s hard to believe she is 11 years old. She loves all her new toys and her pumpkin house.
Markie
He is fabulous!!! We can't get a great photo of him because he's always moving and talking but I will attach a few.
He's such a sweet boy and we love him!!!
Thank you so much
Lauren
Barbara Jean
She is doing great! I decided to change her name to Bonnie. She and Damon are getting along very well, she loves to play with him and sleep on the top of our cat tree!

Tailspin and Notam
Tailspin (now Gonzo) and Notam (now Kermit) are doing really well! They have become very comfortable! They are eating like champs, playing hard and sleeping like pros. They are both very chatty, having opinions about everything and super snuggly!
THANK YOU for giving us the opportunity to be their family- the house is filled with laughter and chaos- it's wonderful!

Aileron
Hello,
Taffy (previously Aileron) has been doing great! She is the most curious and talkative kitten we've ever met. We can't get enough of her little purrs, chirps, and mews--she really seems to be having a conversation with us! She is also incredibly striking with her beautiful, fluffy "tabico" coat and white socks. She has taken to her new environment very nicely, eats and drinks well, and became fast friends with our 1 year old cat. They have so much fun together! Our older guy is taking his time getting to know her, but there is mutual curiosity. Thank you to the Mansfield Shelter team, her foster family, and mama cat Nella for the incredible care you've all given Taffy. She has completed our cat family and is everything we could ask for and more.
All the best,
Shannon & Drew
Nella
Instant love with the addition of Nella/Stella to our home! She has settled in nicely.
We are having so much fun watching her explore and she loves to play with her new toys.
Thank you!

Radar
We named him Merlin because he looks like a wizard! He is absolutely the sweetest, happiest, most polite and confident little guy.
I’ve facilitated a lot of pet introductions and this was one of the smoothest. Our resident cats already adore him and he LOVES to follow them around and get them to play and cuddle.
Thank you!
Jordan
Mila
Hello!
We wanted to reach out to send an update about our recent adoption of Mila. She has been acclimated into our home very well already and has been very personable!
Thanks,
Jack + Emma
Billy Bob and Bronco
Hi,
Just wanted to give you an update after the kittens have been with us a week. “Billy Bob”, now named Earl Grey is doing great along with his brother “Bronco”, now named Ollie. They were skittish to their new home at first but have warmed up a lot with us & are always out playing with each other or looking for pets. They are the perfect fit for our home!
Thanks
Megan
Joe
Joe is settling in wonderfully. Even since the first day at home, he has seemed comfortable here. He’s been eating, drinking, using the litter box, playing, and snuggling. Joe really loves the kids and sitting by an open window. He continues to be friendly and affectionate, always purring and seeking pats. Introductions with the other pets are going well, but we are taking it slow. Everyone seems curious about each other, but not ready to be best friends just yet. I will be doing a weight check for Joe today once my husband can show me how the pet mode on our scale works! Thank you again for facilitating Joe’s adoption; we feel very lucky to have him as part of our family.
Sincerely,
Meaghan
Sunbeam
Sunbeam is regal and relaxing in her new home.
Oreo
I have to tell you Oreo (I call her Orla) is doing phenomenally well! When I got her to her room she hid under my bed for about a half hour and I sat in my rocker and watched tv quietly and she came out and explored and the entire room. She is SO smart! We played puzzle games with treats. She took to her scratch pad right away! .
I’m amazed at how sweet she is. She is still very much a kitten in some respects and boy she can jump really high. She loves to perch on my bookshelves.
Thank you so very much for my new little friend!
Susan
Archie and Lucas
We are beyond happy with getting to know our new furry companions.
Archie and Lucas (now named Armin) are settling in quite well knowing now that everyday is play day! We are still working on getting Armin out of his shell but I am so amazed with how far he has come in just a week! We are able to gently pet him without running away now and he can't resist treats.
Archie is an absolute character. He loves to play and explore, being bold for his brother. He is so silly!! Here are some photos I’ve taken in their acclimation area. Haven’t met the dog yet.
Thanks,
Rebecca
Pepper
Pepper Penta, adopted 6 months ago today! My best buddy loves our walks. So grateful we belong to each other!
Pictures are Pepper (left) and Goose, my daughter’s family dog, in Goose’s back yard.
Cheeto
Cheeto is doing very well! The first 4 nights we kept him by himself in a separate room. We introduced Melvin and Al slowly. The old boys (cats) weren’t very welcoming at first. After a few meetings, they happily are all together. Cheeto fits in very well, and we love him so much!
Jen
Joey
Hello!
We adopted Murphy (previously Joey) through your shelter almost one year ago. He’s a very happy dog, who loves long sniffy walks, tug toys, and playing outside in the rain.
He has other dog friends and lots of human friends. Murphy is full of life and energy, and brings a lot of fun to our household. He also has an extensive wardrobe and goes on lots of fun adventures.
We are grateful to Mansfield Animal Shelter for rescuing him and bringing him into our lives.

Pepe (and Sinatra aka Neiko)
We wanted to share a happy story with you!
Seven years ago, my husband and I adopted a black and white male kitten named Sinatra. To us, he is now Neiko. He was our first baby and celebrated many firsts with us. He came home to our first apartment together, was with us during our engagement and wedding, and stayed by my side during pregnancy. When our daughter was born, Neiko became her shadow, watching her, laying by her, almost like he was protecting her. He is the sweetest and most gentle cat. He loves anything shaped like a bowl or a basket and will plop down anywhere to stretch out and get some belly rubs.
Flash forward to a couple weeks ago, we adopted a black male kitten named Pepe. To us, he is now Ollie. He came home to our forever home right here in Mansfield. Within a couple days, Neiko and Ollie became best friends. They run around the house playing together, sleep side by side and give eachother licks. Ollie is our daughter's first baby and she loves taking care of him and making sure he has all the toys in the world to play with. He loves feather wand toys, tunnels, and cuddling with us in blankets. Ollie also has a love of baskets and will always find a way to fit into one beside Neiko. Ollie has completed our family.
Thank you Mansfield Animal Shelter for our 2 sweet boys.
Love,
June, Sean, Mia

Hermes
He has been doing wonderful. He settled in really fast. He is very sweet and loving. He seems extremely happy. We finally decided on a name after 2 days of debating — Muffin!
-Rebecca and Deron
Mae
Mae is doing great! It took her a few days to get used to all the new sounds at this place, spending lots of time in her hiding place. But she slowly got more and more confident, at first settling into the living room but gradually exploring the rest of the apartment. Now after only a week it's like she owns the place.
She loves to roll around a lot, whether on the floor or on my lap. I make time to play with her but she is very capable of entertaining herself too, the mouse toys getting spread out all over the apartment. When it's time to eat, she chases down and even jumps for the bowl while I'm trying to put it on the floor.
Thanks again for the help with the adoption process.
Moss and Breeze
Fatoosh
She is amazing and thriving. Plays with her toys, and is super cuddly.

Terk
Terk relaxing in his new home.
He’s existing with his doggy siblings just fine! They are all now in the same room respecting each other’s space and lap eating in the same space in separate corners! It’s going beautifully! We love him so every much!!
-Brenda
Riggs
I wanted to let you know Riggs is doing amazing!! He and Tardis are getting along beautifully. He loves pets and will meow to get your attention. We all love him so much already! He's a dream! The picture is him last night relaxing after a long day of chasing Tardis around the house and raiding the cat toy box. Life is tough! Lol!
Thank you so much!! He's a dream!!
Sincerely,
The Folans
Ridley and Moo
Believe it or not our hissy Ridley (black) turned out to be our cuddle cat who loves attention. She runs to me for attention making little kitten meows and will climb in my lap and even let me pick her up. What a change from the scared kitten at the shelter. Visitors still have a hard time getting a pat in, but she loves to play with everyone. She still likes to hiss at everyone, but I don't think she knows that a hiss is a bad sound, she hisses at the person, then plays with them, silly cat. Moo (white and black) is too crazy to stop running for any amount of time so to get a pat in is rare. She zooms by until we catch her in a spot that she can't get away from and then the loudest purrs start as she is patted. She still won't let us hold her, but we will keep trying.
-Stephanie and Kevin
Ares and Pheia
I just wanted to send some pics. The babies are doing well. They are gaining weight and eating great. They are settling into a routine still a bit skittish but getting better.
Colleen
Cameron and Kerry
Hi! Cameron and Kerry are doing great and settling in well.
Attaching a photo from the other night when they were out playing together and using the blanket from their gift bag.
Thanks!
Alli
Gizmo Grayson
Gizmo is doing great. He’s already adjusting really well. He’s been very cuddly and playful. He’s become more comfortable and shows it with having zoomies every night now. We’ve learned he loves to watch the birds so we open the shades every morning for him to sit on the windowsill.
- Elizabeth
Isis aka Snickers
Getting settled here! Snickers is already comfortable and exploring a bit. All is well, look at these two. They are starting to play together and they sit near each other all the time. They are definitely a great pair!
Isis (bottom), with Skiddles, who was also adopted from Mansfield Animal Shelter.
-Maureen
Willow
She is adjusting wonderfully. We love her and all her snuggles. We’re so happy to have her.
-Karen
Noel
I wanted to share some updates on Maya (Noel). She is doing so well and is settling in to her new home wonderfully! It took her some time to get comfortable, but she loves being pet, exploring, and following us around the house. We love having here with us and we couldn’t be happier! Thank you for all of your help!
Best,
Cheryl and Rajan
Nelson
Hi, just letting you know that Nelson is doing well so far.
He is set up in the office and has been alternating between hiding and exploring. He is rubbing up against legs and has had a few tummy rubs and purrs. I'll keep you posted.
-Dan
Tommy
We are obsessed with Tommy. He's the most perfect cat. He's so sweet, LOVES to cuddle & play. He hid for 20 mins when we got home from the shelter, but after that he was right at home. He loves early morning cuddles before work & even kisses my face in bed. So thankful for this sweetheart!
-Hafsa
Casey and Poe
Casey (left) and Poe (right) are settling in nicely. They have lots of toys and places to sleep. Casey loves to cuddle on our laps, and Poe is absolutely crazy about playing with the laser pointer and the string toy - for a big girl she can run pretty fast and jump pretty high, and we’ve got her moving as much as possible. With the activity and her “diet” - fancy feast and only a little crunchy food- she is doing well and we are hopeful that she can lose some weight.
Belo and Shadow
Janice
It’s going wonderfully! She has been eating and sleeping very well - and has a selection of favorite toys already that she begs to play with after naps. She is nervous around the birds and I think more afraid/curious of them than they are of her - the birds love her though already and said “hello” to her this morning which was cute. We have doors closed between them when we are out or at night. Janice is even more cuddly than she was in the shelter which is saying a lot since she was already pretty cuddly. Overall, she has been a great addition to our family and seems she was supposed to be there the whole time. Thank you for checking in - and everything!
All best,
Michelle and Brian
Blaze and Bumblebee
Just sharing some new photos and a quick update on Dipper (Blaze) and Mabel (Bumblebee)! They are growing fast - so big and beautiful. They are being spoiled rotten by their human and canine brothers and sisters. Dipper is now over five pounds and Mabel is just a little behind at over four pounds. She rules the roost! They will be getting their rabies shots in just under two weeks and we will be scheduling their spay/neuter for late February.
